Marc Morozumi - Twenty-One Year Spill, Bates Dance Festival Lewiston, ME, August 1996
Twenty-one Year SpillCreated & performed by: Maura & Marc Morozumi
with: students from 1996 Bates Dance Festival
Inspiration for Twenty-one Year Spill came from writings and images of the large scale exodus from Vietnam beginning in 1975. This historical context was combined with a web-like installation wrapped throughout a gathering of trees and rock on the Bates College Campus. The rope installation physicalized the difficult experience of leaving a place of comfort. When the participants finally plunge forward blindly into an open field some continue running ahead free while others have been snapped back by ropes binding them to their past.
