The Quilt of Johatsu is a site-specific continuation of the exploration begun in Tweny-one Year Spill. Where “21” explored the experience of exodus, “Quilt” examined the subsequent experience of the newcomer. “Johatsu” is a wandering spirit, one whose identity has been lost, literally translated as “to evaporate”. Quilt was created in the courtyard of the Westbeth Complex in Greenwich Village. It was a 4 part - 4 day journey through the nocturnal realm known as the floating world. Day 1: Arrival of the Sojourner, Day 2: Submergence, Day 3: Disappearance & Day 4: Ending in Continuum.
